Cynthia and Joey at the top of Mt. Spokane

taken October 26th to celebrate his birthday

At this time of year you can drive all the way to the summit!

Celebrating life everyday is how we choose to life...not just on special occasions.
Our relationship is strong and wonderful because we appreciate each moment.

We realize that each guest that visits with us are here for a special purpose; and as there are no accidents in life, it is our quest to provide an unparalleled experience for each person that sojourns with us. Our desire is to serve those who come in the style of comfort that affords them an experience of Renewal and Rejuvination.  We were established in July 2008 and are licensed by the County of Spokane in Washington State.   Our way is to be warm, welcoming, and operate our business in the highest regard for our guests.

Cynthia has been an educator in Choral Music, English, Washington State History, and American History in public schools for 25 years.  She is also a professional pianist and vocalist, and teaches privately as well.  She currently plays in venues around the Green Bluff Orchards area. Cynthia has a genuine love of people and her warm, funny personality will make you feel at ease.

Joey is retired from a thirty year career as an industrial electrician.  He is a great cook for the retreat and keeps the landscaping beautifully groomed. He is a jazz aficionado, and also has a vast eclectic CD collection.  His pleasant demeanor is gentle and one of his best qualities is the ability to serve with integrity.

Cynthia and Joey met in high school and were sweethearts.  However, their paths took them in separate directions for over 20 years.  In 1993 a series of wonderful events brought them back together and they wed. Their marriage is a beautiful and strong example of true love and devotion to one another.  They have given encouragement and insight to all who spend any time with them.  This aspect of their hospitality is one of the many delights you will experience when you allow them to be your hosts.

Our Dream
To provide a unique bed and breakfast has been a dream and vision of Joey and
Cynthia Paulson since they were married in 1993. Over the last 16 years they
stayed in more than 30 bed and breakfasts from Whidbey Island, Washington  to Vancouver Island, Canada,  to New Orleans, Louisiana.  They studied what they
would do in their own business, and what they knew would keep coming guests
back for more.  After purchasing this beautiful home on a property that provided
such and amazing and stellar view, they recognized that this was the setting in which
they would settle and create this haven .  .  .

Cynthia and Joey on the Kingston Ferry run to Seattle taken on November 10th.

We took this trip to celebrate our anniversary, and renew our wedding vows which

we do every five years.  Romance and friendship are the mainstay of our amazing.

relationship.  Our hope and prayer is that all who stay with us are blessed by our

commitment to one another and our vison to give joy and love to all who come

and stay with us.

Customer testimonials
Our stay at A Sanctuary was so much more than we wished for.  We played horseshoes, Bocci Ball, and enjoyed an evening campfire.  We were greeted by the friendliest people we have ever met in our vacation travels.  Joey and Cynthia provided us with beautiful accomodations in our suite, delicious food, great hosting, and a view that took our breath away.  We are making our reservation for another weekend as a tradition for a romantic marriage renewal destination, and are also planning a family reunion there in the spring.  Thanks to you guys for giving us a restful, insightful, and enjoyable weekend.

We found this amazing retreat by accident while driving by on our way to visit friends who vacation in the Green Bluff area near Spokane.  It was a close lodging for the evening and we thought we would just spend one night. It was so peacful and comfortable, and we were pampered in such a warm style that we ended up staying two more nights. Cynthia gave us a splendid concert on the second night of our stay.  We plan on coming to renew our wedding vows here in the spring and having our family gather there with us in their HUGE yard.  It was truly a unique and great experience.
