Cynthia has been an public school educator in Choral Music, English, Washington State History, and American History for 25 years.
She is also a professional pianist and vocalist, and teaches privately as well; playing in venues around the Green Bluff area. Cynthia
has a genuine love of people, a great sense of humor,  and her warm personality will make you feel at ease.

Joey is retired from a thirty year career as an industrial electrician.  He is a great cook for the retreat and keeps everything operating
in a smooth fashion.  He is a jazz aficionado, and also has a vast eclectic CD collection.  Joey has a gentle demeanor and a quick wit. You
will find him to be dependable and full of integrity.

Cynthia and Joey met in high school and were sweethearts.  However, their paths took them in separate directions for over 20 years.
In 1993 a series of wonderful events brought them back together and they wed. Their marriage is a beautiful and strong example of
true love and devotion to one another.  They have given encouragement and insight to all who spend any time with them.  This aspect
of their hospitality is one of the many delights you will experience when you allow them to be your hosts.

Our Dream
To provide a unique bed and breakfast has been a dream and vision of Joey and Cynthia Paulson since they were married in 1993. Over the last 17 years they stayed in more than 40 bed and breakfasts varied places such as: Whidbey Island, Washington, Vancouver Island, Canada,  New Orleans, Louisiana, Flagstaff, Arizona, Kansas City, Missouri, Portland, Oregon, and Kaui, Hawaii and Orlando, Florida.  They studied what they would do in their own business, and put in place what would keep coming guests back for more.

After purchasing this beautiful home on a property that provided a wonderful home and had such a stellar view, they recognized that this was the setting in which they would settle and create this haven .  .  .

          ****CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALS***
Dear Joey and Cynthia,
We appreciate how you treated us like we were family when we came.  You provided great food, made us laugh, listened
to us and where we were trying to go in our relationship, and when we asked you gave uplifting and insightful advice on how to renew the love we had for one another.  See you on our anniversary!

Dear Paulsons,
Our stay at A Sanctuary was so much more than we wished for.  We played horseshoes, Bocci Ball, and enjoyed an evening around the campfire.  We were greeted by the friendliest people we have ever met in our vacation travels.  Joey and Cynthia provided us with beautiful accomodations in our suite, delicious food, great hosting, and a view that took our breath away.  We are making our reservation for another weekend as a tradition for a romantic marriage renewal destination, and are also planning a family reunion there in the spring! Thanks to you guys for giving us a restful, insightful, and enjoyable weekend.

To:  Joey and Cynthia
We found this amazing retreat by accident while driving by on our way to visit friends who vacation in the Green Bluff area near Spokane.  We saw the sign on the road and figured it was a convenient lodging for the evening. We thought we would just spend one night, but it was so peacful and comfortable, and we were pampered in such a warm style, that we ended up staying two more nights! It gave us a unique aspect of the American home.   Cynthia gave us a splendid concert on the second night of our stay. We plan on coming to renew our wedding vows here in the spring and having our family gather there with us in their HUGE yard.  It was truly a unique and great experience.

Dear Paulsons,
It was so awesome staying with you guys.  You made me feel at home, and shared some very valuable life lessons with me.  I am young at 25 and just starting out on my path.  Your insights were enlightening and have given me a great deal to think about in the choices I am making.  While I am attending WSU I am going to make it a promise to come up and stay as often as I can.  The food was delicious and I slept very well.  It is a beautiful place to reflect.
